Report a ghost net

There are many organisations that are specially trained and geared up to recover ghost gear safely, please do not try and remove any gear if this means putting yourself or others at risk. Below are the people you can report any sightings too.

DIVE TEAMS

Report a ghost net that you’ve seen drifting out out at sea
The organisation consists of volunteer scuba divers, with extensive training in advanced diving practices, specifically in relation to minimising the impact on the environment.

If you spot ghost fishing gear around the coast of the UK, please let us know right away! Visit the Ghost Fishing Gear Report page.

Fathoms Free is a group of volunteer Marine Conservationists who refuse to stand by, whilst our seas turn into uninhabitable dumping grounds .

Report a ghost net thats too big to handle or you can’t get to.

ON LAND RECOVERY TEAMS

A group of marine conservationists that come together to retrieve ghost nets that wash up on our
shorelines. Contact them via facebook to see if they can help remove any large nets that wash up – they recycle what they can through Odyssey Innovations Net Regeneration Scheme.

You could also try some of the beach clean groups to report on land sightings too as they may have better resources and people power to retrieve these nets. See our how to find a beach clean webpage.
